Compare the same trip

Two headline prices are not comparable unless they cover the same dates, hours, itinerary and service. Ask each operator to break out the charter fee, crew charges and included cruising allowance. Confirm the currency, payment method and whether taxes are included.

Ask about operating expenses

On some crewed charters, an advance provisioning allowance funds trip expenses such as fuel, food, drinks and certain port charges. Other arrangements bundle more of these into the quote. Ask how expenses are approved, accounted for and reconciled; do not assume a universal percentage.

Know what changes the price

A longer route can change fuel use. A different embarkation port can introduce delivery costs. Catering, events, specialist equipment and peak dates may affect the final proposal. Share these preferences before requesting a firm quote.

Look beyond the deposit

Review when payments become due, what happens if you cancel, and how weather disruptions are handled. Ask who holds your payment and who is responsible for operating the charter. Do not treat an estimated budget or an inquiry confirmation as a binding price.

A useful comparison checklist

Request a written breakdown for vessel, captain and crew, fuel, food and beverages, berthing, taxes, cleaning, optional extras and gratuities. Ask which amounts are fixed, estimated or payable locally. Keep the full proposal and contract together.
